WHY ARE WE HERE? We believe that God created the worldand everything in it, that he loves each one of us and wants to be part of our lives - and that he came to earth as Jesus to meet with ordinary people like us. This is why we meet together each week to thank God for all he has done for us - in prayers and hymns. We try our best to live the way that Jesus taught while he was on this planet - and we receive encouragement and advice on this through a message or sermon. We we want to share the good news that God has given us and we want to care for those around us, following the example of Jesus as recorded in the Bible.

WHEN DID WE START? It all began on Sunday 6th September 1885 when a Mission Station belonging to a denomination called the United Presbyterian Church (a breakaway from the established Kirk) opened at Downfield Village Hall.  Four years later on 26 September 1889 the present church building was opened. In 1900, we united with the Free Church, to become the Downfield United Free Church. In 1929 many breakaway congregations rejoined the Established Church. Because there was already an Downfield Parish Church at the Doc Stewart's roundabout, that one was renamed Downfield North, and we became Downfield South, as we remain today.

HOW DO WE WORK? The congregation operates a model constitution. The includes a Kirk Session of 36 leaders (Elders) from the congregation, chaired by the minister, who direct the spiritual life of the church. The Congregational Board comprises 56 elected members from the congregation whose manage financial and property aspects of the church. We are a committted, friendly, welcoming and hard working family of Christians, believing that Downfield South Church provides a positive influence in our lives and we want to share this with young and old throughout the wider community.
